Opposite Reaction

6 th November 2006.

Newton’s third Law of Motion, keeps on ringing in my ears whenever there are conflicting issues, and confrontational attitude is adopted by the powers that be.

To refresh the third law: To every action (acting force) there is an equal but opposite reaction.(reacting force equal in magnitude, but opposite in direction) His three laws discuss about the relationships between forces acting on a body, and the motion of the body.

I am taking the analogy of this law, and find how it is so aptly applies to incidents of everyday life in everyone’s lives.

If we smile with a pleasant disposition, the reaction from others is the same.

If we speak with respect, the response is equally respectful.

If students are taught the three R’s with dedication, emphasizing with examples drawn from life’s experiences, the end result is satisfactory,

If we abuse the neighbours, the reaction is one of anger, and triggers a chain of reactions.

In other words, the substance of the law can be applied to actions of an individual, the state, the country, and in all relationships where the “Interests” clash. The emphasis is on the type of approach to be adopted.

Well, the approach is certainly not easy!

It calls for Communication skills, patience, perseverance, sacrifices, and at exceptional time’s physical force to bring about tranquility, and related traits that come ONLY with experience and a visionary approach.

Are we equipped with these qualities in the present day world?

May be yes, may be no.

If we observe closely at major events (Political, economical, social) that have taken place, the decisions taken by the leaders in their spheres have yielded forceful reactions. It is often said that people initially show resistance to change. If it is for the better, they accept or else they react.

The message is-“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. We are all aware of this. Yet, it is inexplicable why the leaders embark on such reckless acts in the name of dynamism. Perhaps, they want to create history, remain in the history books, or they do not learn from history.

In a democracy, the populace gets the opportunity to react, and a right to choose who should govern them, so as to set right the wrongs. The process continues, and the third law of motion continues to reign and to be remembered.
